In 1997 the skeleton of a woman was found during an archaeological excavation in the polder near Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Research showed that the woman, who was baptized Trijntje, probably lived around 5500 BC and must have been part of a group of itinerant hunters and fishermen. It is the oldest skeleton ever found in the Netherlands.
