On the summit of Costa Palomba there are remains dating back to more than 2000 years ago. According to scholars, the large sculpture is a funerary monument to celebrate a warrior hero, but there is also a basin used as a sacrificial altar and the remains of fortification walls.

In the territory of the municipality, about 4 km from the inhabited center and on the top of "Costa Palomba", which is part of the Alburni chain, (1,125 m asl) there is a figure carved into the rock and attributed to the V-IV century BC. The life-size figure (height 1.60 m) represents a warrior dressed in a chiton and armed with an ax or club and a shield. Oriented towards the west, it could be the representation of a god or a hero. Locally it is known by the name of "Antece" ("the Ancient" in Cilento dialect). Monte Costa Palomba was the seat of an ancient castrum of the Lucanians.

The Lucani were an Italic people, widespread in the Campania hinterland before the Romans; a people full of traditions, which clashed between the fourth and first centuries BC first with the Greeks, then with the Romans who had invaded the

Campania. The castrum was a superb fortress located on the top of Costa Palomba, a fortress of which the remains of the walls can be seen.

An exceptional place, as from here
