I did this tour around the Alburni Mountains, a karst mountain massif of the Lucanian Apennines located between the Sele and Tanagro valleys. Due to their morphology rich in sinkholes, caves, cavities and sinkholes, particularly notable from the western side (eg from the Sele plain), they are known as the Campania Dolomites. Overall there are a large number of caves and cavities (about 2000) including the famous ones of Castelcivita, the largest in southern Italy, and of Auletta-Pertosa ("Angel's caves"). The highest peak is Mount Panormo 1742 m high. Rich in paths and mule tracks, the Alburni chain is today the heart of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. In the center of them, on a road that connects Sant'Angelo a Fasanella to Petina and Polla, there is a refuge, the Casone d'Aresta (1,169 m), and not far away the rock sculpture of the Antece.
