The Meyer-Lippinghausen margarine factory has had a strong influence on the development of the town. Hermann Meyer founded it in 1895 and ran it very successfully. But with increasing competition, the factory, which was so famous at the time, eventually came to an end. In 1984 the factory was finally completely abandoned. It stood where the Hempelmann gas station can be found today. Nothing remains of the buildings except this clock tower of the administration building. The 11 m high tower was built in 1904 and the clockwork is fully functional,
