In 1865, the entrepreneur Johann Anton Wilhelm von Carstenn acquired the properties of Lichterfelde and Giesensdorf near Berlin with the aim of building a villa colony for the upper bourgeoisie. The goods were located in the catchment area of the Berlin–Magdeburg railway line, although there were no stations there before. The railway company approved the construction of the Lichterfelde West station. In return, Carstenn had to cede some properties to the company. From 1873 to 1874 four residential buildings for the railway company were built according to the design of the architect Helling. The houses were among the first of the newly created villa colony and were rather unusual with their height and architectural style.
