The newly constructed building was first occupied in 1935. Between 1941 and 1945 there were around 4,900 inmates in the judicial prison, 3,168 of them so-called “protective prisoners” of the Gestapo. The prisoner books and files that have been preserved show that several people were brought in every day, mainly Soviet prisoners of war and forced laborers. After some time they were either transferred to factories or taken to Ravensbrück, Neuengamme and other concentration camps.
