Mollösund Church was inaugurated in 1866, replacing an older wooden church that probably dated back to the thriving herring-fishing era of the 16th century. As the local population grew, the original church became too small and was eventually replaced by the larger building you see today.

Mollösund Church, Mollösunds kyrka, was consecrated on June 26, 1866. It replaced an older wooden church and was probably built during the great herring fishery in the period 1556 to 1588. During the first half of the 18th century, the church proved to be too small for the growing population in the parish, so it was replaced by the current larger one.
