Small village with cozy houses along the canal, and a cute church.

The village was first mentioned in 1511 as Heijdenscip, meaning "wild growth on the land". Heidenskip is a long linear settlement. It's a relatively new settlement. A real settlement developed in the 19th century. The oldest church dates from 1389 but was demolished and a farm was built in its place. In the 19th century a small Mennonite church was built, leading to the building of a Dutch Reformed Church.
