If there is one church tough, it is the Sebastian Church. What do you want with such an enormous buttress that keeps the tower upright. But there is more that makes the church unique.
Ever heard of a "reduced west work"? That is actually not much more than a church tower built into the church. Sounds normal but it is not, especially in this region. The outside looks Romanesque. The interior with domed vaults and brick imitation is more late Romanesque in nature. So a church in transition style. The large buttress is a lot younger. The fear of prolapse must have been great, otherwise you won't build such a magnificent bear. Also in Bierum you really have to go inside. Look up and see Christ, Catherine with the wheel, Sebastian and Mary with child. For years they were hidden under a thick layer of lime.
