Its origins probably date back to the 8th century.
In 1136, Pope Innocent II confirmed the Schuttern Abbey (Maria Hilf)'s ownership of Schopfheim, including the church and patronage.
The parish church was first documented in 1343 as a parish church. Pilgrimages to the Mother of Grace, Maria Hilf, have existed since the 14th century. In 1695, the parish church was described as dilapidated. It remained in ruins until 1750.
*The choir was renovated around 1760. After 200 years,
the roofless nave in the eastern part was roofed in 1905.
