Beautiful place for a break with a great view. We wondered how many peaks the mountain has ;)

After the recent storm, however, the paths are often blocked by fallen trees, making a relaxed hike almost impossible. It was fine going up, but the descent to Nonnenmattweiher was rather difficult. The trees will surely be cleared away at some point. Then it will be very nice to walk again, I think.

At the moment, however, I would choose other paths.

Away from the more famous peaks in the High Black Forest, the Köhlgarten is a rather unknown gem. The view is fantastic: the full Alpine panorama in good weather, the Kleine Wiesental with a view of Kühlenbronn, Wies and further back Sallneck at your feet, plus over to the Hochblauen and the Vosges with the Grand Ballon. Behind you through the bushes are Feldberg, Herzogenhorn and Belchen. There are no crowds of visitors, you are usually alone up here and enjoy the peace and quiet.
The path markings are poor or non-existent, however.
