The church, consecrated to St. Cyriacus, was once a pilgrimage chapel with an image of St. Anna kept the fountain while outside the church. Hilwartshausen was an independent parish at the beginning of the 20th century and looked after from Lauenberg. In 1974/75 the previously independent parishes of Lauenberg / Hilwartshausen merged to form one parish. The church organ was extensively restored and ceremoniously put into operation again in 2002.
