It stands on the old path between Brandstatt and Hohenschlag, called "Hörbiweg".
According to oral tradition, a couple is said to have lost their way in the former "Halmsteiner Wald". After a long time, the two found the height on the Hörbiweg. They had the cross placed in thanks.
