Anton and Cäcilia Meisl, the former owners of the Fixlmühle, had the Chager Chapel built in 1888. They wanted to honor a special place that had given them a lot of joy during their lifetime.
The chapel was built over a spring that has been known to alleviate eye ailments since ancient times. How much the builders were interested in emphasizing the sanctity of this secluded place in the middle of the forest can be seen in the design of the interior of the chapel, which is based on the Lourdes grotto.
