The castle ruins are somewhat hidden in the forest. There are still remains of walls, ditches and ramparts here. Hurwang Castle is signposted from all directions - there is no sign at the destination itself, so you can easily walk past it.

The Hurwang ruins were built around 1209.

The castle type is a spur / hilltop castle. The Hurwang Castle was built in 1100n. BC on the lost place the Furtheim was built. The client was probably the feudal lord Count von Dillingen.

In documents from the Steinheim monastery, Furtheim is mentioned in 1209 by the forester Ulricus von Furtheim.

Nothing is mentioned about the destruction of the castle.

However, there is a connection that the Herwartstein Castle Königsbronn and Castle Hurwang were also destroyed by Rudolf von Habsburg in 1287.

During the Second World War, larger boulders were then rolled from this castle onto the former connecting road between Mergelstetten and Bolheim in order to act as anti-tank barriers against the Allied tanks.

With the castle ruins, there is a legend of a treasure which, among other things, is said to contain a golden crown and can only be lifted at the witching hour.
