The mausoleum of Khawaja Ahmed Yasawi is an unfinished mausoleum. The structure was commissioned in 1389 by Timur, who ruled the area as part of the extensive Mongol Empire, to replace a smaller mausoleum of the famous Turkic poet and Sufi mystic Khoja Ahmed Yasawi (1093–1166). However, construction was stopped with the death of Timur in 1405.
Despite its incomplete condition, the mausoleum has been preserved as one of the best preserved timurid constructions.

The mausoleum was built on behalf of the Mongol ruler Timur. Although partially unfinished, it is one of the largest and best-preserved buildings from the period. Here he tested construction technology and decorative art that would later shine in his capital Samarkand.
