St. Bartholomäus is a single-nave hall building from the late Gothic period. The construction work began in 1488, I was using load-bearing parts of a previous building. This construction phase was completed in 1502. Regardless of the Reformation that took place in Themar in 1544, the church has been redesigned since 1541: the beams in the galleries with "beard man's heads" are a rarity. It is one of the richest churches in the upper Werra Valley.
It is one of the few buildings in the small town on the Werra, which has historically been documented since 796 and which has survived all the storms of time.
