Rondell with memorial. Turns on the light near the entrance to see the inside of the memorial through the window.

The memorial and the memorial site were inaugurated on November 27, 1987. Previously, a civic initiative had revived the memory of the Husum-Schwesing concentration camp subcamp. At the end of January 1983 - fifty years after the so-called seizure of power - more than 900 people attended lectures by former concentration camp prisoners: "The silence was broken."

In 1985, the district of North Friesland bought the part of the camp site that is located between the country road to Schwesing and the former camp road, and in 1986 the district council decided to create a memorial site in Husum-Schwesing. Where the roundabout and the lawn are today, the prisoner barracks of the concentration camp subcamp once stood.

The sculptor Ulrich Lindow, who later also designed the field of steles, designed the memorial site at the time. It consists of a roundabout, a stele and the brick building. During the design and subsequent implementation, Lindow and the other members of the working group maintained contact with survivors in Denmark, France, the Netherlands and England. Some former prisoners also attended the ceremonial inauguration of the memorial.
