The port of Uelzen is about two-thirds of the way to Hamburg at km 70.74 and is managed by the UHU Uelzener Hafenbetriebs- und Umschlag GmbH. Every year, between 260,000 and 300,000 tonnes, almost exclusively bulk goods, are handled at the trimodal facilities. In 2014, cargo handled jumped to around 400,000 tonnes for the first time. More than 65 percent of the cargo is transported in and out by inland waterway vessel, about one third by rail, and goods are stored temporarily on the generous open spaces. These are mainly liquid (fertilizer), bulk (grain) and piece goods (wood), which are intended for the production of goods in enterprises of the 34,000-inhabitant city and the district of the same name.Source:

The port of Uelzen on the Elbe-Seitenkanal, with a throughput of more than 400,000 tonnes annually, is of particular importance for the economic region. Directly attached is an industrial area. The Elbe side canal connects Uelzen in a day trip to the seaports of Hamburg and Lübeck as well as to the industrial and commercial centers of Hannover, Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Magdeburg. In addition, the Elbe side canal provides access to the entire European inland waterway network.wirtschaft-uelzen.de/home/wirtschaftsregion/hafen-uelzen.aspx
