The Beckumer Westteich did not previously exist in this form. Instead there was a large green area with tall trees. At that time, the Werse was dammed into a small lake (then known as the Westteich) and a staircase led to the water.

In 1974 the bed of the Werse was re-paved. In addition, sewer renovations had to be carried out. For this reason, the old western pond was filled up and the new, well-known pond was created to the south.
