The Masterveld was one of the largest heaths in the Winterswijk area. The Masterveld was developed quite late, only after 1900. It was rationally subdivided and the heath was converted into agricultural land and forest. These are the large-scale heath reclamations that were made possible by the use of artificial fertilizers.
