To date, no documentary evidence is known that contains a reference to the possible period of time for the construction of this small memorial chapel. Only the memorial stone above the lintel gives a clue. There it says: “Ad honorem Dei sacellium hoc renovatum sumptibus Bernardi a Gohr judicis Madmannii et Christinae Clute. (= For the glory of God, this chapel was renovated at the expense of Bernhard von Gohr.) Anno 1617

There is no documentary evidence for what is probably the oldest building in Erkrath still in existence that documents the year of construction. Only the year of renovation (1617) engraved on the stone above the lintel gives a clue. The building is probably much older.
