The Hammertal is located in Remscheid's urban area and takes its name from the former hammer mills that used to be in operation here. The Hammertal is bordered by the districts of Reinshagen, Güldenwerth, Vieringhausen, Kremenholl and Ehringhausen. The hammer works were driven by the Lobach and the Linkläuer Bach. The hammers produced or further processed high-quality refining steel. Most of the hammers and kotten are no longer preserved today.
