The castle was built in the 15th century and destroyed after two fires (in the 17th and 20th centuries). The manor Hagen was founded as a fortified farm in the Middle Ages. It was owned by a family from the so-called landed gentry. Until the Eighty Years' War, the Sion monastery was also located in the area, which was demolished during this war. After a fire in 1656, the house was rebuilt in its current form. Around 1900 De Kelder was used as a hunting lodge and then as a scout clubhouse. In 1934 it was completely restored after a second big fire and put into use as a regional museum.
