The clay pit pond in Alpenrod was created from the former Böhmsfund kaolin pit.
Kaolin - a special type of clay that is used to make porcelain - was mined there.
Today the pit was full of water. The layer of clay on the bottom gives the pond a unique water color.

Entering the site is prohibited by the mountain police and only allowed with prior approval from the owner!
