The bunker on Zwieseler Straße was built as a crew bunker in connection with the construction of the pioneer officer school around 1940. This is a standard bunker of the type M 500; the name is derived from the capacity (500 people). The three-storey concrete building has a hipped roof, loopholes-like window openings and a console eaves cornice. Like a defensive slope, the building tapers towards the top. This bunker is a typical representative of the traditionalist fortress architecture of the National Socialist era. In addition, the bunker is a direct reminder of the horrors and fears of the Second World War and the resulting bombing of Berlin. The protective structure is the last preserved of its kind in Karlshorst.
Between 1945 and 1994 the facility of the former fortress pioneer school was used by Soviet institutions, the bunker served as a warehouse and cold store. The building has not been used for some time.

It's a shame that such buildings are not put to some kind of use. They just stand around uselessly.
