The huge steam pumping station was set up in 1920 to pump excess water from Friesland into the IJsselmeer. Until today it is fully operational and thus the last functioning steam pumping plant in the world. You can also visit this industrial monument, glide through the halls of the steam engines and learn all sorts of things about the history of the building in the adjacent visitor center.
