This is about the revitalization of the local alluvial forests along the Danube. These were revitalized in a large-scale project, also with EU funds. The aim is, on the one hand, to use the water-storing effect during floods and thus to significantly reduce the flood effect in other places. On the other hand, to give many plant and animal species a permanent home again. At the same time, migratory fish are given the opportunity at three different points to bypass the Bergheim weir in a natural flowing water. This is the largest contiguous alluvial forest area in Central Europe and the associated meadow institute is located in the Grünau hunting lodge.
