Paula Hut

The hut on the Maurerberg used to be a refuge for shepherds and farmers. Today the hut, which is located at 1008 meters above sea level, is a popular destination for hikers and mountain bikers, who from here - in good weather conditions - enjoy the view of Lake Constance.

In 1857 Jakob Marock, who had been provisional forest and hunting overseer on Maurerberg for three years, was permanently employed at the request of the provincial administrator in Vienna. At the beginning of his official term of office, he is likely to have built the hut as a hunting lodge and shelter. Originally it was known to the population as the "Kälble" hut, as shepherds and farmers used it to protect themselves from both cold and rain.

Over the years the hut has been modified several times. For example in 1979, when Rudolf Marxer demolished the hut and rebuilt it from scratch in the old style. A major renovation took place at the turn of the century, after Richard Hönighaus from Zurich had leased the hunt on Maurerberg. In 1905 the hut, which the new owner dedicated to a Paula, was officially inaugurated. Since there were several women with the name Paula in the vicinity of Hönighaus, it is still unclear to which of these women he dedicated the hut.
