The mill pond was used to operate a water mill.
The first indications of the occurrence of a water mill in Albersdorf can be found on a map from 1559.
It has been owned by the Boljen family since 1750, who still own it today.
The watermill has been a listed building since 1984 and is the only still operational watermill in Dithmarschen.
The mill pond, which is fed by the Westerau, has developed after intensive renaturation measures into a habitat for a species-rich flora and fauna. The newly created scree slide enables fish and insect species to move from the Gieselau to the mill pond.
