🎭The archaeological rarity from the Nijmegen Valkhof Museum (in small🙂)-
created here in larger than life size by the artist Andreas Hetfeld🎭 since 2020:

Through the eyes of the mask 🎭 you can get a Roman look at Nijmegen 🧭 (Noviomagus).
Roman soldiers had worn such masks in battles, parades, ceremonies, and tournaments. 🎭
This gigantic Roman mask can be found on the island of Veur-Lent on the north bank of the Waal. The work of art, 6 meters high and 4.5 meters wide, symbolizes the antiquity of the city of Nijmegen.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the original splendid specimen of the mask was unearthed from the Waal when dredging. The right cheek of this mask is slightly scratched. It has been suggested that it reads Marcian. See for yourself what it says? The original mask can be seen as a masterpiece of the permanent collection of the Valkhof.
