Even before the great fire of 1725 there was a rifle house in Grabow, but it was demolished because of the danger of collapse. In 1847 the guild decided to build a new rifle house, which was inaugurated with a big party in 1849 thanks to generous donations of gold and goods from the Grabow citizens. The Grabow rifle guild has always had a good relationship with the ducal and Mecklenburg grand ducal houses. The friendly relationships continue to this day, from the Grabow-born Duke Karl Leopold (1678-1747) to Duchess Donata, a granddaughter of His Royal Highness Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV.In addition to the guild gatherings, the Schützenhaus was already the cultural center of the city. Recurring concerts in the park's pavilion and the Sunday morning pint with brass music were just as much a part of it as theater performances and balls. In 1902 an annex was added to the rifle house and the existing structure was repaired. In 1924 water pipes, sewer systems and electrical lights were connected. After the house had been used by the border police and the Red Army for a few years after the end of World War II, the building and park were returned to the city in 1957. The house was renovated and refurbished with city funds of 150,000 marks and reopened on April 27, 1958 as a cultural center and cultural attraction for the Grabow citizens.further information: grabow.de/index.php/tourismus/ausflugszüge/179-schuetzenhaus/492-buero-des-buergermeisters-15

The Schützenhaus is a very nice photo subject. Today it serves as a venue for celebrations and events of all kinds.
