    The new section has been created here, which completes the last part between Uedem and Xanten! Cycling where kings used to travel. (More on history in the last paragraph of the text) This new section leads - somewhat offset to the actual route - from Villa Reichswald to the tunnel in Uedemerbruch to the wheel drive, which leads back to the top of the railway embankment.

    The complete cycle route (approx. 155 km) from Boxtel (NL) to Wesel and further information can be found here: boxtelerbahn.eu (The new section has not yet been taken into account)

    I have already cycled the entire route and I have to say that the most beautiful part of this route is between Uedem and Xanten, because this part leads almost exactly over the old course of the railway in the midst of beautiful nature. The entire route is recommended!

    There are numerous stories and anecdotes from the heyday of railway history surrounding the historic railway line between Wesel and Boxtel. At that time it was not only the fastest east-west connection between London via Berlin and St. Petersburg. The use by the European royal houses or the Russian royal family in particular contributed to its great popularity.

    In order to make the history tangible, a cycle route “On the trail of the Boxteler Bahn” was developed, which repeatedly encounters traces of the legendary railway connection over about 155 km through beautiful landscape. Information boards along the route tell the exciting story, a cycle touring and adventure map for the cycle route is available from the participating municipalities.

    Take a journey back in time to the heyday of railway history in the German-Dutch border area!
