Built in 1273 by Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (Llywelyn the Last), a Welsh Lord, Dolforwyn Castle stands on a prominent hillside overlooking the Severn valley.
After lord Roger Mortimer defeated Dolforwyn in 1277 after a two-week battle, the castle was eventually abandoned in the 14th century. Recent excavations have unearthed its atmospheric remains.
