    Italian:
The Black Grotto is located in the province of Trieste, in a small sinkhole located in the experimental parcel of Bosco Bazzoni di Basovizza, on the Trieste Karst, and is identified by number 43 in the Venezia Giulia caves register. It owes its name to the fact that it was used for the reclamation of war remnants, whose explosion blackened the walls of the cave.

Some written sources mention that in the mid 19th century the cave served as a storage space for ice, but did not function due to difficult accessibility.

The cave is interesting as the setting of prehistoric life on the Trieste Karst has been reconstructed, from the Palaeolithic to the Neolithic.
