The white, round west tower of St. Catherine's Church in Stapel is a striking feature. This massive tower dates from the early 13th century and is one of the very rare round towers in the Schleswig region. With walls up to 2.5 meters thick in its lower section, it served not only as a church tower but also as a defensive structure and refuge for the inhabitants of the marshland at that time.

Hiking

St. Catherine's Church in Stapel is an old fieldstone church, the oldest part of which, the chancel, dates back to the 12th century. The nave, apse, and the striking round west tower followed in the early 13th century.

Inside, it impresses with its late Renaissance furnishings: These include a carved altar (1609), a pulpit (1615), and a baptismal font made of blue Belgian marble from the 15th century.
