The easily visible barrows northwest of the St. Anna Chapel bear witness to early settlement activities in the older Hallstatt period. These were based on numerous small open water areas (pools, lacquers) in today's Deisenhofen Forest - relics of the last Ice Age - which at that time offered favorable conditions for early human settlement. Only one of these pools, namely the "Deer Fountain" located here, has survived to this day.
