The Karlsruhe city wiki reports on the history of the small sanctuary, known as the ZOPF CHAPEL after its builder:
"On June 8, 1725, a murdered girl was found at the site where the chapel stands. A servant who worked in the nearby grinding mill was convicted as the perpetrator. He was executed on November 10, 1725. However, it later emerged that he had been wrongly accused. As atonement, the lawyer Peter Adam Zopf built a chapel in 1749. It stood far outside the populated area of Östringen and was therefore not initially shown on any map. A fund was donated by its builder for the maintenance of the chapel. In 1763, Zopf had the chapel enlarged and a gold-framed image of the Holy Family added. In 1766, an altar cross was added. (...)"
