The "Mühlviertel Cathedral" in Niederkappel
The Gothic church from 1404-1411 had become too small in the 19th century. So the call for a new church to be built became louder and louder. The well-known and probably most important Linz bishop Rudigier suggested the establishment of a fund to enlarge the church, the village judge and local poet Ignaz Donabaur made the first donation in 1858.
The church was rebuilt in the years 1890-1895. The plans for the "Mühlviertel Cathedral" were drawn up by the then Linz cathedral master builder Raimund Jeblinger. The church was built at the time with great sacrifices by the parish population. The parish and church patron is St. Andrew the Apostle. The church itself was consecrated in 1895, but the tower was not completed until 1907 and the organ was purchased in 1912.Info from oberoesterreich.at/oesterreich-poi/detail/401055/muehlviertler-dom.html
