At first inexplicable ruins in the landscape turn out to be buildings for the never completed side canal Gleesen-Papenburg. The building was closed in 1942 due to the war and then discontinued. While numerous sections of the canal have been completed north of Meppen, there are few witnesses to the construction process south of Meppen. More information about this started project is welcome.
