One of the better places with a view of the sand pit because of the irregular shapes, height differences, vegetation and the mini beach with the rope that undoubtedly makes many dream of swinging on it and jumping into the water - in the summer anyway.

This sand pit is one of the sand extraction pits of Zandbedrijf Velbo, originally called Zandbedrijf Benelux. The company was founded in 1957 by Mr Albert Vanvelthoven and his wife Maria Vanderhoydonckx. Albert was a construction contractor and started sand extraction for his own use. He soon started supplying his fellow contractors as well. A year later, the demand from third parties for sand became so great that it was decided to start mining at a higher level. In 1958 he switched completely to sand mining. At that time he sold 120 tons of sand per day, today the company sells 1500 tons per day. Over the years, lommel sand became more and more known and was used all over the country.
