The City of Fort Bragg, yes, the whole city, is a California Historic Landmark. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Bragg,_California

In 1857 a military camp was built and the place was named after the commander Captain Braxton Bragg. Ten years later the camp was abandoned and several sawmills were put into operation. After the opening of a port facility and a railway line, the timber trade was further intensified. The city was officially founded in 1889. In 1906, the San Francisco earthquake was a severe earthquake that destroyed almost all stone-built houses. The subsequent fire also destroyed a large part of the wooden houses. After twelve months, however, the city was largely rebuilt and now benefited from the fact that large amounts of lumber were needed to rebuild San Francisco, which had also been badly damaged by the earthquake.

From 1916 onwards, holidaymakers and tourists came to the very attractive place. To this day, the tourism industry has grown steadily with new hotels, restaurants and offers for fishing, water sports as well as tours to the nearby national parks and to the impressive, very tall coastal redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) in the area.
