This historic lifting bridge dates back to 1930 and is still in regular use to allow boats from the North Sea into the harbour. Only the latest iteration, there have been multiple prior bridges crossing at the same point.
If you’re lucky, you might get to see the bridge rise and settle back down, something which does not always work on the first attempt; it's renowned for not going back into place perfectly. A magnificent bridge, it was once the only place to cross and thus heavily congested. Still busy, the load had been lightened somewhat by the opening of Breydon Bridge in the 80s.
