The Mooser Teiche are located in the Vogelsberg in the area of the municipalities of Freiensteinau and Grebenhain.

The ponds were mainly created in the 16th century under the rule of the noble Riedesel family for fish farming.

These are the following bodies of water:

- Nieder-Mooser pond near Nieder-Moos

- Ober-Mooser Teiche near Ober-Moos

- Realmless Pond at Realmless

- Rothenbachteich between Bermuthshain and Ober-Moos

With the exception of the Nieder-Mooser Teich (colloquially also known as Nieder-Mooser See), which is used by tourism, all Mooser Teiche are designated as nature reserves.

They represent a breeding area and resting place for numerous bird species.

Since the year 2000, the Ober-Mooser Teich and the Reichloser Teich have been owned by the NABU-Landesverband Hessen and form the NABU-protected area "Vogelsbergteiche".
