The San Lazzaro gorge is a narrow and deep gorge, which takes its name from the place where it is located, the result of the erosion of the Metauro river in the stretch between the town of Calmazzo and the town of Fossombrone. The charm of this gorge is linked to the high vertical walls which in some points reach 30 meters in height. An element of great suggestion is the presence in the gorge of the so-called "Marmitte dei Giganti" or large pots, some of which reach a diameter of three meters, in which, according to popular tradition, the giants are used to cooking soups based on wild boars and others wild ungulates.
