The Mariagrot is an air raid shelter from the Second World War, created by the inhabitants of Eys who worked in the coal mines. At the time, this entrance was the emergency exit.
This quarry is managed by the Ir. D.C. van Schaïk of the Natural History Society in Limburg. This quarry is used for research and education by, among others, the Study Group Subterranean Limestone Quarries (SOK). The quarry is closed to protect the natural values, the hibernating bats, historical, geological and mining values.
This quarry is closed due to danger of collapse.
