The place name Ungelstetten is interpreted as the site of Uncolos (Ungold site). Ungelstetten probably grew up around the settlement of a Zeidlerhof, as did Winkelhaid and Penzenhofen.[4] Ungelstetten was one of around 50 former Zeidel estates that were located in the Lorenz part of the Nuremberg Reichswald. Until 1792 it was part of the land area of the imperial city of Nuremberg and until then it had been administered by the Lorenzi Forest Office. The Bavarian King Max II visited Ungelstetten in 1858 when he stayed in the local forester's lodge while hunting for capercaillie. Due to the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century, the place became part of the rural community of Winkelhaid

Very pretty little town, definitely worth a stop on the hike through the Röthenbachklamm. There is a cafe and a great restaurant to stop at.
