Corncockle Wood is an important junction on the Annandale Way long distance trail. At its southern end, the Way branches off: Lochmaben and its three lochs to the right and Lockerbie and the Eskrigg Nature Reserve on the left. The wood gets its name from a five-petalled flower, the Corncockle, which is almost extinct in the wild and unfortunately is no longer present here.
