A strategic hill, once dedicated to Jupiter, with a view of the plateau that leads to Otranto will still have to be climbed but after just a few hundred meters you will reach the summit of Montevergine. The sight of an immense expanse of olive groves makes one understand how important the cultivation of this plant was, culturally and economically, for the heel of Italy. An enormous challenge awaits Salento, xylella is a watershed towards a still indecipherable future for the olive tree and this territory.
