Michelstadt is not only worth a trip during Advent because of its beautiful Christmas market, but also in the warm months:

If you look to the east in the direction of Kornberg (474 m) and Katzenbuckel (449 m), you will discover two beautiful mountains that want to be driven.

The highlight "Der Weiten-Gesäßer" takes you, as the name suggests, to the tranquil village of Weiten-Gesäß. On the way there, it is about 3.5 kilometers up the Kornberg. The gradient percentages are a maximum of 9%. Most of the time, however, you pedal relatively easily at 4 - 6% and overcome approx. 160 vertical meters. Once you have left Michelstadt behind you, you drive up the mountain on a super asphalted road through a great piece of forest. The long passage that seems endless is replaced by a few curves and a great 180° turn towards the end. What is shocking, however, is how much rubbish lies on the side of the road. Especially in the upper part after the turn.

Once you have reached the top, you can let yourself roll down the relaxed, fast descent to Weiten-Gesäß. While it's going downhill, you can catch your breath and eat a bar in a relaxed manner, but of course you can also pedal and accelerate. In Weiten-Gesäß you can then consider whether to continue to Vielbrunn or Zell or Bad König in the Odenwald. The onward journey is also highly recommended.

A very great highlight with little traffic! (I also took and uploaded photos)

Beautiful climb through the forest. The asphalt is in very good condition. The trees provide shade. Traffic is absolutely limited. And in terms of the gradient, the climb is also very easy to ride. On average it is around 4 to 5%.
A real highlight in the region 👍
